Turning Our Work In

This is the all important paper trays where we turn in our work. One of our first tasks to complete in my third grade is to organize our desk, head up our paper correctly and turn our work in promptly.

Computer Corner

We keep these computers hopping throughout the day. My students take their A.R. reading tests as well as do their research for our reports here.

The Reading Hut

These are my book baskets holding my prized A.R. chapter books that are labeled by reading levels. I've been collecting for a while now, and always am looking for more to keep those kiddos reading...... We've got some of Junie B. Jones, Magic Treehouse Mysteries, A to Z Mysteries, Boxcar Children Mysteries, Bailey School Kids Mysteries, Cam Jansen Mysteries, Horrible Harry books, Captain Underpants, and Matt Christopher books. After reading a book, they review it, go to our classroom computer and take a comprehensive test on it. Then they record it in their folder. You wouldn't believe how it builds comprehension! I don't set a certain number of books for them to read because they read them nonstop anyway.

More pics of our classroom

This is a palm tree my dad made our classroom. The kids sit under it to read or do centers. I think it makes the classroom.

Welcome to Classroom 113!

This is our Hawaiian themed third grade classroom. I've been teaching in this room since 1992 and it feels like my second home by now. My personal goal is make each and every child I teach feel welcome, loved and important so they can learn to reach the stars. My teaching mission is to instill the love for learning in a fun and structured environment as well as to teach my students to reach their goals in passing the Alabama Reading and Math Test. Teaching is my passion. I honestly love coming to work because everyday is a challenge and everyday comes a blessing. To see a child learning something new, to see them showing compassion and honesty, to see them growing leaps and bounds is what keeps me loving my job and continuing to try hard for them. They deserve it. Here's to a new, blessed schoolyear coming very soon! This is our reading corner below. The table is from my grandaddy's house from years ago. The chairs are special because they're from the old Thorsby High School. I like vintage furniture!
